Large Panels

Once again, I am ready to make the jump and ‘attack’ larger panels. The reason large panels are challenging for me is two-folds: first, it takes more skill to keep the layers even and smooth when working in a large scale. Second- since in encaustic I work on flat panel (not vertically as I would with oil paints), it is physically hard to reach the center of large panels and the larger the panel, the more toll on my back…

One way to enlarge my panels is to work on multiple panels. I work on one at a time and then connect the panels for the end result such as this one:

Today I finish a piece containing two panels. Both are large -for me. Here is the end result: The size is 36″ x 48″ (2 panels of 24″ x 36″)
